Are you jealous of people who can not only play the guitar but appear to really know their way around the instrument too? It has gotten easier for a lot of people to learn anything, including and especially the guitar, online. Anyone can simply pick a song they want to learn, search the chords for those songs and look at tutorials or finger placements that show one how to rock these chords on the instrument. These are some ways I’ve actually done online and more often than not I would claim that I can play the guitar.

Admittedly though, I may have prematurely made these claims because this is not what “real playing” is about. Real playing goes beyond mimicking finger placements. It means knowing chord progressions, at least, or how and where these chords should go, how they work together and etc. It’s basically just “playing around” with the guitar this mock playing. There is one important tip you need to learn if you’re just starting to learn the guitar. Programs, no matter how award-winning (which is what Steve Krenz’s program is, by the way) can only do so much. In order to be a good, let alone a great, guitar player, you need to include in the equation hard work and perseverance. With perseverance you get into constant practice and perseverance stems from passion and the unquenchable drive to learn.

Another issue that no student of the guitar instrument can escape is the pain that goes with each practice. I am referring to the literal pain you will feel from the tips of your fingers, to your knuckles, neck and back. This pain is normal when you’re practicing but if you want to avoid or minimize experiencing them, you can stretch before each session and take breaks after 30 to 45 minutes to stretch your leg muscles or walk around. One pain that will be impossible to avoid is the one you’ll get from your fingertips. It’s inevitable, you will get blisters on your first tries with the guitar. The only way around this is to allow calluses to build up so it would no longer hurt when you play in the future.
